Hanover Cares Interest Meeting
Welcome to the Hanover Cares Interest Meeting! Join us on Tuesday, Nov 19 2024 at 6:15 PM at the Atlee Branch Library to learn more about Hanover Cares and how you can get involved in our community. This is a great opportunity for participants to meet like-minded individuals to discuss ways to promote youth health and well-being through substance use prevention. Points will be used toward the creation of the 2025 forum. Come see how you can make a difference in Hanover!
Hidden in Plain Sight Event
Hidden in Plain Sight is a free community initiative and is suitable for parents, grandparents, other community members and any adult who works with or cares for and about young people. A replica of a teenager’s bedroom will be on display for participants to browse and observe, becoming familiar with where and how teens might hide drugs or paraphernalia. Seemingly innocent items commonly used by youth could actually indicate a substance abuse problem.
It will allow you to be more knowledgeable and proactive in helping a young person who might be using drugs, but also prevent youth from even starting. Parent engagement and conversation starters and tips will also be shared.
This event is hosted by Hanover Cares and Teens Care Too Coalition, which is comprised of Hanover County high school students dedicated to educating their peers and parents about the dangers of substance use.
The success of this event is due to the collaboration of the coalition’s community partners. The coalition partners with the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, Hanover County Public Schools and Hanover Community Services to bring you this eye-opening event.
Because of the sensitive nature of Hidden in Plain Sight, it is not suitable for children.
There is no cost to attend the event, however pre-registration is required.

High in Plain Sight Workshop
This workshop is for law enforcement, probation officers, school administration, treatment providers and counselors. This session is unique, in that it provides over 120 visual aids for attendees to hold and become familiar with. In today’s culture everything is person-specific and has different meanings to different individuals. For each person to help prevent youth and adult substance abuse, you MUST know what is going on in your community.
